~CHAPTER ELEVEN~

The huge kitchen was no less grand than the rest of the house. Any and everything was on hand to create whatever meal they desired. Rakim and Icia worked in silence preparing the dinner which would be cooked by the large grill on the back patio. The evening had turned quite chilly, so they decided to eat in the kitchen. Icia set the table and fixed salad and dessert, while Rakim grilled.

The phone rang just as the plate of juicy Rib eyes were set to the table. Icia looked over at Rakim, who shook his head.

"Let the machine get it, I don't want anyone to know I'm here," he said.

The call went to the answering service and in seconds Cory Henderson's voice filled the kitchen. Icia dropped the silver salad tongs she held and they landed on the hardwood floor with a loud clatter.

"What?" Rakim couldn’t help but notice how shaken she was.

Icia produced a wavering smile. "I didn't expect your answering machine to have surround sound, that's all," she pressed a hand against his chest.

Rakim laughed. "I only do that when I'm alone. Sorry, I scared you," he said, placing a kiss to her temple. "Soon as I bring the vegetables in, we can eat," he said, peering down into her face and nodding when she smiled again.

The instant Rakim left the room, her smile faded. Icia clenched her fists to keep her hands from trembling. She didn't tremble from fear, though. Rather, a mix of anger and anticipation had her in such a state. She could almost taste the sweet nectar of revenge against her tongue. Cory Henderson was about to pay so dearly. Still…things would have been more perfect if she could have his accomplice too.

"Okay, now we can get busy!" Rakim bellowed, upon his return to the kitchen with the remainder of their meal.

Icia forced the dark thoughts from her mind and concentrated on the happier event in progress.

By the time dinner reached its end, Icia's mood had completely improved. She and Rakim talked about everything and nothing. Afterwards, they reluctantly cleaned the kitchen, then headed upstairs with their arms linked around one another's waists. They strolled through the darkened house without conversation.

"Goodnight, Cocoa," Rakim’s intense midnight eyes were riveted on her face.

Icia hoped her disappointment was effectively masked. "Goodnight," she managed a tiny smile.

Rakim cupped the side of her face and leaned down to kiss the corner of her mouth. Icia's quiet gasp beckoned him to continue and he applied more pressure to her soft, full lips.

"Rakim..." She accepted his tongue when it eased into her mouth. She suckled gently, before kissing him back. Her arms encircled his waist and ventured beneath the T-shirt he wore. She deepened the kiss as her nails grazed the taunt dark skin stretched across his wide back.

Rakim pushed the door open behind Icia and suddenly broke their kiss. In one smooth movement, he swung her into his arms. Nestled against the hard chest, Icia pulled her hands from beneath his shirt and curled them around his shoulders.
